The standard scale train system is the most commonly used railway system in the world. Approximately 60% of the worlds railroads used the standard scale. However, in model railroad trains the standard guage is actually a much smaller system first introduced by Lionel back in the 1930's.
The standard scale (often confused with the S scale system) is typically 54 mm between outer edges of the track. This makes the scale approximately a 1 : 27 ratio train to the typical standard scale system.
